Team Canada’s collection at the 2020 Tokyo Games next year was revealed on Monday by the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and Hudson’s Bay, the team’s official outfitter for the past 14 years. The launch supports the Team Canada Return To Sport program, established earlier this year, announces what the team will be wearing for opening and closing ceremony, on the podium, and in their Olympic village as well.
The collection is an important symbol of national unity to support their athletes as they prepare for their road do the big events, which were rescheduled for July 23 to Aug. 8, 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Hudson’s Bay’s collection “seamlessly blends classic fashion pieces with street style aesthetic” is described as unapologetically Canadian. The brand has collaborated with Levi’s to design key elements in the opening and closing ceremony outfit.
The water-resistant, lightweight nylon jacket ($125) used for the opening ceremony is red, with a zip-closure and bold Maple Leaf on the back featuring 13 stripes representing the unity of Canada’s 10 provinces and 3 territories. It will be paired with a white t-shirt ($25) featuring a Maple Leaf set inside a red circle on the chest. The outfit, and also part of the closing ceremony look, will be completed by Levi’s 721 white high rise jeans ($128) for women and 502 white jeans ($128) for men.
Inspired by graffiti and street-wear, the collection’s hero piece is a unisex trucker jacket ($198) celebrating the inclusivity and gender neutrality. The jacket also has key feature showcasing the friendship with Japan with the word Canada spelled in Katakana, a Japanese syllabary. The jacket will be paired with a black t-shirt ($25) with the Maple Leaf set in a metallic gold circle as a tribute to the team’s success.
